Never heard of any dealers charging for loaners. Normally you either get one for free- or you don't get a loaner at all..

Was this not just to cover insurance? I did have to pay at Bells Northampton if I didn’t want a £700 excess which was a bit annoying as who would went that risk.

Not if a warranty issue, never had a loan car for a service, as I have waited till the service was completed.

I was given a loan car when they had issues with the service and had to keep the car, but no charge, just leave same amount of fuel in it.

Yes - when in for service.
No - for warranty work.

Newbury Dealer.

I have never been charged by any dealer for a loan car, Peugeot, Citroen, Toyota, Land Rover or Volvo.

I have just had my second service on my XC60 and was given a V40 as a loaner, and for the first time I was given the option of insuring against having to pay the £500 excess in the event of an accident. I declined the offer, I think the cost was £12.

Charge is nearly always for insurance.

If I take a loan car and insurance from Riverside I pay a tenner. If I sort the insurance then it is free.

Sorting the insurance is easy as my Aviva policy automatically covers a loan car when the insured car is in for service or repair up to 7 days.

Three times I've had courtesy cars with my local Volvo dealer for both warranty work and a service, three times they've told me it would cost £10 to use their insurance and I've accepted each time. Zero times have they charged me.
