Oil dipsick broke!!!
 

This is a bit of a warning, although I may just be very unlucky!

Whilst changing the oil on my v40 today the dipstick broke just below the black O ring, didn't put any force onto it just merely touched it and it came apart (wasn't in the engine at the time), the plastic has clearly broken where it is thinner at the O ring. A replacement is £13 from volvo so not broken the bank. May be worth checking as it would be a right pain if it dropped inside the dipstick tube although I know that can be removed if needed

Typically the dipsticks on my dads V70 and 440 where different in length and diameter at the top but do seem to far more substantial than the V40!!

This has just happend to my 2000 V70! I pulled the dipstick out, wiped it, put it back to dip the oil, pulled it out again and checked it, it was fine, put it back in and the top just broke off above the O ring. I put no pressure on it just fell apart. quiet bizzare! Where it had broken you could just see the top of the metal part of the dipstick. I have put a small dob of araldite on the broken end and put it back in hopeing to pull the whole lot out in a day or two and replace it.
