S40 2.0 Diesel Stuttering at 1800 to 2400 RPM
Hi,
Volvo '05 S40 2.0 Diesel stutters while I accelerate through 1800 to 2400 RPM. Outside of these RPMS is all fine. - Anti Skid Service required message is on constantly - The issue had actually disapeared until I took it for an MOT on near empty tank. Now its very bad - Turbo and injector cleaners 'seemed' to improve the issue though I'm still evaluating. - The stutter is like a very smooth up and down, not sharp jerks. - Sometimes I doesn't do it at all but after a recent MOT it's happening alot. - Attached 2 OBDII devices and couldn't get any kind of reading. I was suspecting a fuel issue so stopped allowing my fuel to get down to a quarter tank. I feel like that helped. However it's so bad now that I need it fixed. Any ideas? EGR? Clutch? Turbo? Injectors? Sensors? Addition: As I accelerate through the turbo's range, there is a very obvious sound of air rushing. It sounds the same as if a tyre was being deflated. Is that a potential problem? |
Check your charged air intake system for cracks and leaks
Consider anew fuel filter Measure fuel pump pressure. |
Thanks. Booked in for a full service tomorrow. Hopefully they will find the issue. I will update soon.

Service complete and fuel filter changed. They said all the air hoses are fine.
It's still hesitating. I opened the bonnet, a friend revved the engine and I could hear and feel air. I found a split. Its quite bad. Picture is attached. Could this be causing the problem?? |

That pipe went on my car and lost most of my boost, black smoke and low power. Taped it up for rest of journey then fitted a new one. Now a modified pipe made of rubber, not plastic, but is about £90 !!! Have to take the front bumper off to fit (on the V50 ) anyway. Iain |

I'm also concerned about the strong fuel smell outside and inside the car! I can't see a leak beneath the car. |
