Rear door has body coloured protective lacquer
Hi.
I have had 2 xc90s in the last few years. Both have had a strange 2inch by 7in lacquer type sticker on the rear doors. It is going from the bottom of the door and goes up. It almost looks like it is protecting the start of the wheel arch. My first xc90 03 reg only had one of these because i think the door had been replaced on one side. My current 05 dark blue xc90 has it on both rear doors but the n/s was starting to peel. Over the winter i have taken the car to the car washe. Today, due to not being able to go out i hand washed the car. I noticed the lacquer was missing leaving a very dull blue paint underneath. Does anyone know what these lacquer type things are for, why do they come off and how can i repair or make good the paint underneath. Thank you Dave |
Go to your local dealer and he will get one of the protective sheets for you.
Meanwhile using T Cut or similar, rub down and then polish the area that's dull. I think these sheets were intended to protect the doors from debris thrown up when driving "cross country" Could be that the car wash sprays/brushes have loosened the adhesive and the panel has just blown off over time. Cheers Dave |
Thats great. I will give t cut ago.
Thank you Dave |

Many cars have them. They are not designed to come off. Mine are still in place and are over 10 years old. |
It’s actually clear plastic, also known as copter tape. The residue left is the glue, a light solvent will shift it.
