I have an '09 C70 and also have very poor headlights, especially on dipped beam.
Very disappointing for a marque that boasts its great safety concerns and measures!
It's all very well having SIPS, WHIPS, ROPS, etc., etc. but if you cannot see well at night .....!
My previous little Renault Megane was excellent, but driving this C70 at night is like taking a step back in time, almost to the pre halogen bulb era.

a reply to my email !!!

i sent an email complaining and had this reply back, not much use really as we all now its a design fault and they won't admit that as they would have to change everyones headlights in the phase one cars, still a reply is better than nothing

I am disappointed the hear of your concerns with the quality of illumination from the dipped beam headlamps. I suggest to rule out any defect or fault, that you take your vehicle to your nearest franchised Volvo dealership, so our trained technicians can assess the functionality.

Please contact me should you require any further clarification.

Kind regards

You are right in that it is a cop out reply, I had one similar. However I do think the more people that email then they will sit up and take notice. I think our own cars are doomed as they will not alter all V50 and S40 light fittings but it will hopefully be of benefit for the next set of Volvo's. They may also look to improve the lot for future V50's, the S40's will not be done as production will surely stop soon as the S60 kicks in.

I have yet to receive a response! Will chase up tomorrow if necessary.

We have been approached by Volvo Car UK about this issue and they are awaiting a response from VCC. They will share this when they get it.

Meanwhile, considering Volvo Car UK may also be short staffed because of the difficulties caused by the weather, some patience, courtesy and consideration be given.

Hi all

I have a 59 plate V50 and find the headlights to be fine - certainly no worse than the VW Golf i had previously or my wifes Toyota MR2. I do around 60 miles a day on unlit country roads. Maybe the problem is now sorted?

Sean

I too took delivery of my V50 DRIVe last month, and I must say that the headlights are just no good (on dipped beam only). At least not as good as in the old P reg Xantia I scrapped for it or in my wife's 53 plate Clio. Apart form that, the car is brillant. But I will definitely have a word with the dealer when I take it to the quality assurance inspection.

Guru, Thanks for that. I would love to respond with a witty use of the initials VCC but I have a severe case of brain freeze after clearing my drive AGAIN. I am sooooooo bored of this every night. In the tradition of Mock the Week can anyone come up with a good example of a VCC?
