My insurance where told, they said iv lost my no claims bonus and i have a £650 excess to pay now :(

what happened: i was doing 55 in on a sweeping curve, the one at A120/M11 jct8A towards stansted

the back end slipped on a metal strip that was embedded in the road, i paniked and instead of hitting the brake i must have hit the accelerator and i slid across the grass on the outside, then slid back onto the road and into the barrier :( the car looks like its a write-off, not sure yet i will know in the next 24 hours

buggery about the insurance :'(

Bummer, if you don't have your NCBs protected then you will have lost a couple of years worth but not all. Excess, well if that's you agreed on the policy then £650 is what it is.

We just went through a fault claim when the wife wrote off our Saab, just play the game, take your time and document everything you send and receive. We had an initial low settlement from the insurers and with one correspondence and some printouts of similar Saabs for sale on Autotrader we got a settlement a touch more for what we paid for the car and some extra for the children's seats. Took about 5 weeks to get it sorted though, luckily we didn't need the cash for the Saab's replacement.

I suspect you car will be 100% written off.

Looks similar impact to yours, though the wife took a lamp post out with launched the car into a stone wall.

Gutted for you, but the most important thing is you are here to tell us what happened

You've definately killed the car though dude, 2 airbags alone is probably the thick end of £1000 at bodyshop prices, without the cost of bodywork repairs.

On a more positive note though, which new car do you fancy?

NigeS Jun 11th, 2012 16:43

The bodyshop quoted over £14k! to repair the Saab, I think they were making sure it certainly got written off.

As Banksy says, you walked away so the car did it's job.

What a bummer mate, at least you are ok mate cars are just metal and money is money but life is much more precious, hope all goes well mate

Anadinolin Jun 11th, 2012 16:50

yup, im still alive and kicking hehe

when i was busy spinning out i thought as the airbags went off " this must be an advert for daz or BOLD...maybe its heaven...i didnt think it would smell accrid like this though"

it seemed so slow when i play it over in my mind....shame about the car - i loved it to bits - but im alive, it protected me, so did the barrier - i cant hve NCB protection under 5 years NCB :/

and yes... reluctantly, new car time hehe gotta see if insurance will pay out first though, i said to myself i would be happy with 2.5K for it

may get myself a V70 T5-r Phase one or maybe go oldskool and try for a 740 intercooler estate ;)

in the meantime if that dosent pan out, i have my family heirloom, grandads 460

Sorry to hear the bad news mate.

As others have said the most important thing is that you any passengers if you had any where ok.

Looking like the car will be a write off given the damage. Might not be a bad thing really, some times they just dont seem the same after being in a shunt and being repaired. Be prepared to haggle with your insurers to get a decent value for it. Start printing off similar age, spec and mileage cars near to you on auto trader.

Maybe don't go through the insurance and use the £650 excess to go towards another car, depends on what the car is worth,,but the Highways will probably make a claim against you for the damaged armco.

The HA will still want paying for the Armco which you can offer to pay yourself but at £1k per section it won't be cheap and then the £150- £250 for the recovery assuming it was through the police contractor.

At the end of tha day all that really matters is that you are okay.
