How would the aux belt snap?
3 Attachment(s)
A few days ago I noticed two bolts on the front subframe were loose (about 10mm of thread showing), no idea how but tightened them and checked the other side and they were missing!! Replaced these yesterday (pink circled ones) with the car on ramps. Got back in the car and no power steering and turned out the aux belt had snapped and sheared laterally rather than logitunally. Coincidence or not? Happy to admit to a schoolboy error...
The belt is only 10 months old and all pulleys appear to spin freely. 2009 V70 D5 |
I suppose that we need ask what brand of belt it was that was fitted.

Yikes! Was the aux tensioner changed with the belt 10 months ago, and did it seize perhaps? I can't see how the belt snap would be related to the subframe bolts, so I'd say coincidence.
Any other damage? Stu |
Yes, tensioner done with the belt in October 19 / 8000 miles ago. It isn't seized.

No matter what this turns out to be, you need to send the belt to Gates and get them to examine it for manufacturing faults. If all the pulleys are running smoothly and the tensioner is not seized, it is difficult to see why a good belt would snap like that.

I take it you changed the belt and tensioner ? Not a garage
