over curent & blowing dip beam bulbs

Hi there.
I have a 2005 S40 R Design, which came up with a over charge warning light on the dash and the radio display flickered, central locking and child locks started to operate too. This happened a number of times during the week. Spoke with a Volvo specialist and they said that it would be the alternator. Replaced alternator and all was fine for about three weeks. After that my headlight bulbs started to blow - one every couple of weeks and the lights became dim. Turns out that the bulbs had got so hot that caused the element to fail, not only did it melt the glass in the bulb but caused the headlight reflectors to flake causing the dimness.
I'm presuming that I have a problem with over current again although its not showing fault on the dash?
Has anyone else had this issue? I'm sure the alternator is the correct one with the higher output. The only thing I can think of is its a regulator fault and presume that's part of the alternator?
Would really appreciate someone's help as I love the car but am losing faith in its reliability. All the best Rob

a while back i bought a cheap battery load / alternator tester its saved me alot of time trying to find out what if any fault there was with either , a handy tool and saves that trip to get either tested at the garage
