M47 gearbox to fit B20

I'm in the market for a working M47 gearbox.

I'm not sure if these were fitted to the slant 4s in the 240 range, I think my B20/M45 bellhousing may swap over to an M47 unless anyone knows better?

It's to explore converting my Laplander to a 5 speed, in place of the M45...

What's out there? :)

yes the 240 had this box later on . I'd much prefer the M46 however , it is satisfying just flicking the OD switch with your finger rather than making a gear change . The bearings seemed weak on the M47 , sometimes they go noisy .

I need to mate it up to the FD51 transfer box in the Laplander, or I would go for the OD option.

I know the M47 will bolt up to the transfer box, and also looks shorter than the M46, so I won't need to move the engine so far forwards. To save prop angles on both (and the rear prop is already very short with a mid engine and 82" wheelbase!) I need to keep the transfer box in its original position.

Thanks for the suggestion though :)

M47 is not simple to fit to the B20, there is a guy in Holland who offers a cut n shut bellhousing for the swap

Do the M45 and M47 use the same bellhousing?

Because I have a factory B20A/M45 setup so I'm hoping my bellhousing will do the job.

I'm pretty sure that the M45, M46 and M47 all have interchangeable bellhousings ie. gearbox-end is common - although I could be wrong.

The differences are at the engine-end eg. red block OHC, PRV, D24

Sounds like you may already have what you need.....but as I've just suggested please check this.

I have an M47 going spare. I'm also up in Lakes in October so I could deliver to your door....

Do you know exactly what is involved for this? My understanding is that the M47 was only ever paired-up with the lowest output red block OHC engines. Is it purely because the red block OHV is upright whereas the later OHC is on a slant? Or there other differences?
