Clicking noise from V70 electric tailgate

Hi, my electric tailgate on my V70 does not work, when it has been open for about a minute there is a loud clicking noise similar to a plastic gear cog jumping. I have seen various fixes but never seen this mentioned. I would appreciate any advice.

I wonder if it might be the hydraulic motor itself. It is located in the middle of the left side panel in the trunk behind the carpet liner. Get yourself in the trunk, put your ear to the panel and wait for the click...does it come from there?

Very often issues with the V70 boot are connected with the fact that it's plastic and has no neutral earth. As a result the earth connections all come from one connection in the rear headlining. This can wear/burn out leading to all manner of odd electrical issues - boot not opening, wiper not working, lights not working, boot not closing etc, boot open/closed warnings on the dash etc...

It's probably not connected with your issue - but worth a check first. It's a common issue and one covered in this video (from about 5:20)
