Plastic Bumper Tops - Renovate UV Fading
The tops of the plastic bumpers on my 1996 850 have faded with ultra-violet sun light. Cleaning type products, eg. 'Autoglym Bumper Care' are only a very temporary solution.
Does anyone have experience of WURTH Plastic Paint Plast PT Anthracite (Grey - Article No: 08932802), how effective it is and how closely it matches the original plastic colour and of the side trims. FYI: I have tried the 'hot air gun' technique but it only lasts a few weeks before fading again. I did use a USA Branded Bumper Dye which was OK for a while but is no longer available. Many Thanks! |
I've used Wurth plastic dye in black for my 855R for many years. A fantastic product! Would heartily recommend it. It's the best of everything out there.

Thanks Pookie! You used black. My 850 is the CD (luxury) variant and the bumper tops and side trims are a dark grey. I guess the Wurth Anthracite would be a better colour match, what do you think? RB

Gtechniq C4 trim restorer is the stuff to use. Quite expensive but will not need doing again for two to three years. It is a clear liquid that bonds with the plastic using nanotechnology and will restore the original colour no matter what that was - whether black, dark grey or the mousy grey so beloved of Volvo.
If the plastic has faded to the point that it looks white and dead rub it down with 1200 wet and dry, used wet with a drop of washing up liquid in the water. This will remove all the old plastic and leave the surface silky smooth ready to apply the C4. That is just wiped over the surface with a cotton wool pad. |
I use Autofinesse Revive. I have never rubbed the plastic first, but I can understand that this may help also. Revive seems to last a while for me, months rather than weeks.

I might try the Gtechnig C4 on the smooth plasticised metal mouldings, eg. the roof rails and perhaps the door handles though? |

Think I will try the Wurth Anthracite for the Bumpers and Side Trims, and perhaps the Gtechnig C4 for the roof rails etc. Kind regards, RB |
