850 AWD vs V70 R AWD?
 

What would the main difference be between a 1996 850 AWD and 1997 V70R AWD?

You cant even compare the 2 in any way shape or form..

Okay that might be true, say wrt later stage phase 2 v70's but apart from cosmetic chanes to exterior and interior between the 855and p1 v70, don't they both use the same viscous AWD system and transfer box? I know that the v70 R AWD uses the b5233t3 engine as opposed to both 855 AWD and XC V70 p1 which have the same b5254t engine. So basically, in terms of drive trains, aren't they the same in that regard?

Hi the running gear gearbox m58, transfer box, propshaft all 4 driveshafts, rear diff and rear brakes rear axle beam are exactly the same. The auto boxes were the same upto 99 when the 4 speed adaptive was used for about 6 to 9 months in production then in late 99 the 5 speed adaptive was introduced for the last v70r classic and the xc70.

Wrong Gary, As I know for a fact that the prop shaft from the 850 will not fit on to the P1 V70R's transfer box or rear diff..How much actual experience have you got in knowing your info is 100% accurate and not just "I think so" ??

Only partly correct, Tony.

Up to chassis number 465738 it IS identical to the 850 AWD.

From ch 465339 to ch: 630091 it changes, then changes again from ch 630092 on

I won't bore you with the part numbers unless you want to dispute it; but you wouldn't want to do that, 'cause you know I'm right :)

So by saying that comparing the chassis number from a v70r awd ending in 432026 wrt the 465738 you have mentioned above is in all respects a good match? If so, then fantastic. Been in touch with FRF Volvo this afternoon so providing them the chassis number from my own 855 AWD vs that kindly given to me by an ebayer who sold his 98' Volvo V70R AWD the other day on ebay, so they will do a comparison for me to double confirm.

If it looks good following all the above, then will certainly start the engine rework in 2012.

Erm, no I dont know your right T and Im only going on what I know and have had experience with.chassis numbers are all good and well in a perfect world T as long as the breakers take note of them..O that's right they don't they only ever put the year and model on the parts..
