Adding 2 Stroke oil to diesel in a 2007 185 XC90

Okay guys just trying to gather a wider view point. Below is the link to my thread in the XC90 section but was wondering what’s others thoughts are?

Does anybody else do this? If so what engine have you got? Good or bad results?

Heard of this many times, yet to see any empirical evidence that it helps in any way. I personally wouldn't bother.

According to this it is a no: https://www.fuelexpert.co.za/2-strok...ical-study.php

Interesting link, thank you.

Used to read a lot about this on the Land Rover forums when I was active there.

I think essentially it can suppress some symptoms of an engine ageing (noisy injectors etc.) but it is just that - symptomatic relief.

Given how much manufacturers stress about using low ash lubricating oils in the engine, adding it to the diesel tank doesn't seem to be a good idea though you would think the amount added is so small it shouldn't matter.

If you get dipped by HMRC with anything in your tank other than diesel, Biodiesel or Vegetable oil, you will be in a world of hurt!

I think that this would be maybe ok in an older 163 bop version (I still wouldn’t do it as I think any benifits are going to be temporary and it’s a bad idea), however on anything dpf equipped I think the potential soot/ash/combustion type effects could cause issues.

I would give it a miss.

I never put anything in my engine not recommended by the manufacturer. Only BP fuel (never supermarket), also only the correct grade of Castro oil. Too many potential problems with DPFs and EGRs to take any chances
