Mpg!

Hi all just did my first miles per gallon calculations today,I only got the car on the road recently. It's a 740 GLE 2.3litre manual five speed,1990 year.

It managed to do 25.1 MPG which considering I do only stop start short journeys isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Well at least I can roughly predict how far a tankful will get me.Did I mention the fuel gauge doesn't work! Now theres an unusual thing on a 740.

I did 129 miles and used 23.300 Litres of super unleaded which cost £1.23.9 pence per litre.Which is a total cost of journey £28.86.
Regards Brian.

Hi there my mileage is 179167,I still have to do a full service but have done plugs and airfilter so far.I've got a lot to get done in a short time as holidays are looming.Towing sockets rear axle oil change, ignition switch, oil change etc etc.Still very pleased with the car though.

Sounds pretty ok. I could get up to 30 on my turbo when it was stock but that was after a full stage 0 service.

That is not bad for a 2.3, looks as though you will be getting 30ish on a long run. My low mileage 960 does 15 mpg local, 25 mpg on the motorway, mileage 77K 1996(P). I do not check 'The Old Lady' 1995 960 mileage 243K, it has the carbon footprint of the Isle of Wight, but is still going strong. If I checked the MPG, I would probably shoot myself.

25mpg isn't too bad for a heavy car with a 2.3 doing a stop/start journey... I'm getting around 22mpg in my 1.7tonne S90 3.0 24v and I don't drive it like Miss Daisy, on motorways I get 25mpg @ 75mph

4.5 litre = 1 gallon(uk) I put 40 litre in and I get 200 miles before refuelling (40ltr = 8.88gallon, 200 divided by 8.88 = 22.5) :car:

I recently posted on here ref our holiday up to Scotland and the Lake District.

Our average fuel consumption was logged at 38mpg, over almost 3,000 miles, calculated on our Garmin satnav. Checked the mileage against the amount of fuel used when we got back here and it tied up. We were delighted with it.

Easy on the pedal, never hammer the car, and gentle on the brakes...........always pays for itself.

But then I'm the original Volvo pipe and slippers guy.
