Private plates
Hi all,
I am thinking about getting some private plates for my dad and I'm just wondering why we have to go through a 3rd party to get the plates, I have checked to make sure that they are available and that they have never been used before so why can't I just put that registration on retention with the DVLA without paying a silly amount of money to a company for a plate that currently does not exist. Any thought would be appreciated. Al. |

Just go on the DVLA site and if the plates that you want are listed on there then buy direct from DVLA.
You do not need to use a 3rd party. |
The third party will only buy it from DVLA and charge you more than if you bought it direct from DVLA.

I have 2 private plates both bought through the DVLA. Go direct, 3rd party places simply charge more.

plates
easy,
buy your plate £££££ then your £80.00 dvla fee to transfer, plus a set of number plates,£20.00 |
Private plates
Plates bought direct from dvla include first assignment fee of £80
Some 3rd party sellers bump up price stealthy by adding the £80 again No brainer dvla for me tho prob only get choice of plates that have never been issued and only standard issue style |
If you can get it from DVLA do, my dad didn’t understand and ended up paying a lot more for the same plate we picked for my mum (3rd party add 20% vat too) avoid the likes of regtransfers if possible.
Same reg advertised at same price on different website except it was plus fees and vat... |
