Rear fog light
2 Attachment(s)
07 plate V8.
Having broken the rear bumper fog light, off side, I ordered a replacement. It's a genuine Volvo part, but differs in a significant way. It looks like the bayonet aperture for the bulb has not been fitted, and the plastic blank has not been machined out, therefore I can't fit the bulb. I've attached a photo to show how the parts differ. Can anyone let me know if I have the wrong part (the new part is numbered 31111185). And what I do actually need, as I ordered this from the website using the car reg for year and part identification, and this is what turned up. Thanks. |
ps. All of the moulded letters/numbers on the two items are identical, they look like they came from the same mould.

Fog lamp is fitted to drivers side only.
Passenger side is only a reflector. Are you talking about driver or passenger side? |
Driver's side Swiss.

Wiring for bulb (which I have removed).

It looks like you have a RH unit intended for the LHD market (ie. only a reflector). Is the same mould but not finished for a bulb holder.

Hi stu
Note, in the UK drivers side is the right. The 'normal' side inc swiss, is left! Hopefully you can just remove the plug, but it appears (to me) you have purchased a non UK unit 'drivers side' unit! |
In some non-UK markets the fog light is integral to the rear position lamp (hence the rear position lamp bulb is a 21w & 5w twin filament but only the 5w is used in the UK).
Due to UK & EU regs on fog lamp positioning (i.e. must be minimum 100mm separation with the stop lamp) it was moved to the bumper reflectors. Although UK cars only had one fog light (o/s) you can buy from Volvo a kit to implement the nearside as well - you need a wiring loom, lens and bulb holder. You need: LH Drive rear fog lamp body part number 31213647 Fog Lamp bulb socket / harness part number 8693010 And here is how (end of thread) https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...oglight&page=2 |
If you use a Dremel tool or scalpel, you can cut out the plug and convert a reflector unit into a bulb-accepting unit.
In Canada, rear fog lights are uncommon (and only having one on confuses police that you have a bulb out). I converted my passenger side reflector into a 2nd rear fog light as you can't order the UK drivers side lens in Canada: Quote:
