Trailing Arm(s)
Not an urgent one, but I'm looking for a set of trailing arms for a 240 that belongs to a non-internet savvy friend's car.
If anyone in Cheshire/North Staffs/Manchester/Merseyside/South Lancs can help I'll happily pick them up. |
Hi,
I’d be remarkably surprised if any secondhand ones are worth fitting- I had a set that looked ok sandblasted and it turned out they were paper thin and full of holes under the under seal. Any original ones have had at least 27 years to deteriorate... Brookhouse and other places sell new pattern ones for about £60 a side, I fitted two to my car and they fit perfectly. Cheers |
I had a thread about this - https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=310490. One problem I had was the name of the part, my garage ordered a 'radius arm', one supplier, Brookhouse I think, calls it a 'suspension arm'.

It is the rear axle lower arm or at least that is the least ambiguous description

It is the "Support Arm" as the Haynes manual calls it; Classic Swede's post has a more specific description. Whatever its name/alias it's the one to which the damper/shock absorber mounts.
Fair comments about the state of them but there's always the slim possibility that someone might have had a set in deep store that they no longer required (in my dreams, perhaps). |
They do tend to go crusty.
If you do opt for new ones I would suggest doing a good job of painting them so that they last |
