Towing weight allowed V70

Hi,

First post, I’ve tried to search but couldn’t find my answer.

I have a 2005 (55) V70 2.4, I think it’s the none turbo.

This is on the passenger wing.

I’m hoping to tow a track car and trailer with it but wanted to be sure it was allowed.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Ben

Hello , this may help you , on your VIN plate the first figure below the VIN number is the vehicles kerb side weight 2100Kg . The next figure down is your gross train weight 3900 , you deduct 2100 from 3900 & arrive at 1800 Kg .

You really need to use a weigh bridge to make sure you comply , it is very easy to exceed these limits and the Plod & VOSA do perform "roadside " weighing sessions .

Hope this helps:regular_smile:

As above and 1 refers to the front axle limit of 1040 kg and 2 the rear axle with a limit of 1120kg but a gross vehicle weight of 2100kg.

Might be quite tight for towing a car on a substantial trailer. Get it weighed to be sure.

Thanks both.

To clarify, if the car and trailer+rack car weigh less than 3900KG im all good. Passed test in 2004 but with new rules im right in thinking this is OK now?

By the sounds of it, best to get the car weighed and the trailer with car weighed separately to be sure as well.

Thanks!

Ben

Yes and no - the maximum mass of a braked trailer & load you can tow is 1,800 kg regardless of the load/weight in the car….

Also the weight imposed on the towball has legal connotations.

And if the trailer isn’t braked I’m assuming that reduces the weight I can tow as well?
