Double Din Radio

Evening all

Fitting a new double din stereo in the xc90. Pioneer with wireless apple carplay (got one in the other car and love it). I’m using the connects2 wiring loom with steering controls etc... but I have 2 questions

1. It has a microphone input (and come with microphone) but would prefer to use the factory fitted mic (it has Bluetooth in my car). Anyone have any idea where it is and where I would find the lead for it? Is there ima chance it’s included in the connects2 interface?

2. Similar to the above it has GPS. Would prefer to tap into the factory fitted receiver. Where is it and where is the wire for it?

Thanks

The factory microphone for the Telephone is mounted in the sunroof switch console, above the rear view mirror.
The microphone is cabled to the amplifier, under the right hand front set.
Refer to the wiring diagram, it's all there.

The factory GPS antenna is in the antenna housing in front of the rear view mirror, just behind the windscreen glass.

That is only the antenna.
The antenna coax cable is wired down to the navigation computer under the left front seat.
The GPS receiver is integrated into the navigation computer.

For cars with OnCall but no nav, there is a separate GPS receover which I think is in the dash somewhere, I am not sure where. I don't have it on my car.

Thanks.

Have just spent the morning trying to fit with the connects2 kit. Absolute disaster.

Couldn’t get it to work without plugging in the old radio and have now got an airbag warning.

Anyone does this before could you PM me

What are you replacing? standard? High Performance? Premiun?

mikespike May 26th, 2019 22:52

Yes premium. Pioneer wireless CarPlay. Top of the range put one in my focus a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. Aviv z910.

Went out for an hour this afternoon. The. Came back and started again. It’s now 11pm and can finally say in finished. !!! Wasn’t the easiest of install but does look good.

A little annoyed that I can’t use the factory mic as I think it’s a lot better. If anyone knows how I could. Let me know.

And if anyone is going through this process give me a shout and I’ll do my best to help.

Final thing will be do try and clear this code. Have a volvotech connect plus. Wonder if that will do the job?

What reason prevents use from using the factory mic? It’s on its own coax xable all the way down to the amplifier.

Can’t see a co ax going into the amp. However did see on in the drivers side a pillar? My new stereo takes a mini version of a 3.5mm jack. If u could help me find it that would be great and if so how would I get that to my stereo jack?

Refer to the wiring diagram for the cable routing, wire colours and connector pin assignments.
Wiring diagrams are easily available (google...)

As to "how do you connect a coax cable to a 3.5mm jack" the answer is:
1. Cut and prepare the cable, ensuring you have enough length
2. Observe if you have just inner core and shield, or 2 cores and shield (I cannot remember...)
3. Solder the screen to the ground of the connector
4. Solder the -ve mic signal (if not the screen) to the ground of the connector
5. Solder the +ve mic signal to the mic terminal of the connector (likely the tip of the 3.5mm connector)

or you use a coax to 3.5" adapter (space permitting) ... CPC, RS and Kenable have plenty of options.

Hope it helps

No.
The original cable goes to the amplifier under the front right seat, and does NOT use a coax connector.

I'll look up the pins and wire colours tonight...
