B18A rebuild with K Cam and 9.5:1

Bought through the forum (thanks, Andy !) last summer. Old and worn out, had been sitting in bits in a shed for years, but original and un-bodged.

Basically finished now. Next to rebuild is a pair of SU's sourced though the forum as well (thanks, Alan !). Then who knows? Sell it ? (but have become emotionally attached) or find a car to put it in (there was a South African car with a seized engine on Car and Classic that claimed to need little welding, but then lockdown happened and now I thing it's gone).

Anyway, here are some pics.Attachment 133252

That looks a bit better. I'll give you your 50 quid back.
I hope it goes as well as it looks. Nice one, regards, Andy.

🙂. It was a delight to work on, Andy! You did me a great favour.

:tounge_smile:I’ve got a 544 ( work in progress) that that lovely looking B18 would look just perfect in !!

I might end up selling it, keep in touch! To be fair, I need to put it on a Dyno to make sure all is good.

I really went to town on it. Such a lovely thing to work on.

I love 544s. Very cool.

Nicely done. If it is going to be static for a while and it is not stored in a heated / dehumidified storage space I suggest that you spray some light machine oil into the plugs, intake and exhaust ports and then seal up the pors (and all other openings) with plastic or a plasticized tape. You don't need rust forming on your fresh internals!

Thanks 142. Wise words as always. Plenty of assembly line in there already, but will do as you suggest toots sweet.

That looks a great job well done, i would keep it as well after all that work. But as said seal it up and keep it nice and dry.
Quick question did you know how much they machined of the head o get to the 9.5-1 CR after ? Only need a rough idea as i would of course have it measured first.

Hi Bracpan. My local engineering shop did the calculations for me re CR. I had to send them the CH gasket of course. They put in hardened valve seats at the same time.

Install it in a motorcycle frame, a la Allen Millyard. (utube: The flying millyard)
