Jammed odometer
Useful tip if your mileage and tripmeter go AWOL. I understand it’s a common fault. Well with a selection of screwdrivers you can take the instrument panel apart, dismantle the speedometer and check the worm drive to plain gear that drives the digits. On mine the plain gear had shifted down its shaft and was moving out of mesh with the worm gear.
Took about an hour to sort out. |

Well done you! (For even starting it)! |
The bad news is that it's likely to de-mesh again in the future, as the splines on the other end of the shaft which are supposed to hold it in place get loose over time. You can do a more permanent fix by riveting a piece of plastic or metal to the shell of the speedo (at the gear end) to hold the shaft in place.
