Xc60 oil reset help!

Just bought a Volvo XC60 and had oil filter change done at ATS and approx 2k miles oil level reading low and saying add 0.5l of oil. Does the oil leve have to be reset every time you do oil change by using Vida or do you not have to? It's a D4 diesel 2014 plate 2 litre engine

FWD with the VEA engine? That gives an average oil reading for the previous 30km driven. The reset is only to make it read full immediately after the oil change, otherwise it could still read low for some time until 30km has been covered.

Not unusual for them to need the odd 0.5L. There is a piston oil control issue!

ATS  did they use the correct grade of oil? Oil consumption on VEA motors is known as it’s a new car to you I would think you need to top it up check the level and keep a good eye on it.

See page 2, use of oil D4,
It will explain the above comment.

Yes VEA Engine and they used correct oil as made sure it was Mobil 1 with correct grade. It's front wheel drive model.

Just wondering if the oil reset is needed and wasn't done as it shouldn't use 5 litres of oil to do 2k miles. Don't want to add oil if the level is correct and gauge reading false

No reset is really needed. So long as you've driven more than 30km before using the e-dipstick then the level indication will be as accurate as it ever can be and any warning messages will be correct.

The first time I got a message telling me to add 0.5L I was also worried and so just added 0.25L. This was enough to extinguish the warning.

The last time I had an oil change it was at a Volvo dealer and they did not put in enough oil. Because they performed a reset they were no warnings until I drove home. Information on the required volume of engine oil has been changed since this engine was first released and it seems that some places get confused about the volume. As I said, there is also an issue of oil consumption on these anyway.

What do you think the real issue is here then, to use around 5 litres to do just under £2k is excessive. Is it better to get rid of the car.

is it possible to fit a manual dipstick on these cars, heard that some police models had them?
