Turbo (and n/a) alternator (or compressor) DIY

Just did a video on this, not sure if there's an easier way for turbo engines - this would also work for the a/c compressor

This is clever! It's a bit of a nuisance to have to remove PS pump and then it's still a struggle to get the alternator out in the same space. I like this approach a lot better and will try it if/when the alternator on my XC gives out. These alternators do last a long while but eventually they do go and will leave you stranded if you don't pay attention to the signals.

I think if I have to replace alternator or ac compressor I would probably remove inlet manifold and dip stick

If removing the intake, it would be a good time to do the PCV as well if it wasn't done yet - and also the thermostat

I'm not sure I agree, you open yourself up to a few other things going wrong by increasing scope of job like this. Having said this, Orangex is right - if your PCV/Thermostat/etc is overdue then by all means do it all in one shot as you'll get beautiful access all around.
