Can anyone tell me where I can get a new remote key fob (with key in it) and roughly how large a mortgage I'm going to need to get one?

5 button or 6 button?

There are currently 2 second hand 5 button ones on Ebay at £88 and £36 (the latter has no metal key) - the £88 one will check your VIN number to see if it's right...

There's also a genuine brand new Volvo 6 button one going for £129.99...

How much is it to get the recoding done?

It's a 6 button one, and I assume it is possible to "re-program" one to my car, using my existing one. but what do I do?

It looks like you have to get the programming and cutting of the blank metal key done at a dealer (pricey), or perhaps an independent garage that has the VIDA software. It looks as if you can't reprogram a secondhand key - unless it has been "blanked" from the original car. If you buy a new key it must come with an 8 digit code (barcode?) that allows it to be scanned at the dealership.

It's all about security...?
