Hi Mark
Don't know if this will help. See the post by keith58 in the C70 97-05 section.
C70: Turbo not working.

thanks, but yeah im not the sort for actually opening it up myself and testing. i dont deal well with getting dirty, even as a child.

Turbo won't engage if it's in limp mode. There should be an error stored for what's caused the limp mode. I doubt it's the turbo.

It won't be the turbo, be something like a duff sensor - which then disables the turbo.

Turbo's fail in a more dramatic and obvious way.

The car needs plugging into a Volvo specific diagnostic code reader i.e. VIDA or Dealer-level equipment.

will try to see what vida says tomorrow if i can plug it in

So, garage says, Actuator got wet is now dead. Must replace whole turbo, non volvo one installed will be circa £1200, real volvo one fitted will be circa £1800

Does this sound right to people, does the whole turbo really need replaced?

I have no experience with the D5 but actuators are usually serviceable. I wouldn't do the replacement without getting a second opinion. Chances are, you can get the actuator replaced for less than 200. Did you get the error codes read?

didnt get codes but while poeple on line have said you can just chiange the actuator, spoke to a few garages and they and they all pretty much said its a bad idea. a couple guys said oh garage X did mine for X hundred but..... they are hundreds of miles away.

tbh just going to pay it and pray tht its the last thing to go wrong with the car for a long while as it getting out off hand

Dont know if yours is the same as v70d5 ie turbo and electronic actuator but they do fail. I too had garages say replace turbo etc. I replaced the actuator myself and it was plug and play. I rang a few companies up and told them details of my car and got a replacement actuator. It was just over 200 quid. I would do some research first and see what you can find out.
