1800S gear-lever rattle
 

I have an annoying rattle through the gear lever when travelling above 60 mph. This rattle noise is there in 4th with or without overdrive engaged. It stops when holding the gear lever.
In the past I have had the gear-lever bush changed and this has stopped the rattle for a while.
This time it has not gone way when bush changed.
Having just returned from 500 mile trip the rattle noise is greater. Very annoying when one has to drive on motorways at constant speed.
Have others had similar experience?

Which bush do you replace? If you replaced both of the nylon cups that go above and below the ball, use the thickest grease you can find in this part of the pivot. Put some of the same grease inside the sleeve on the shaft too.

I replaced the nylon bush (part 380311).
What is the other bush?
Who stocks this other bush? I could not see it on the Brookhouse website.

#380311 is the bush that the small end ball of the lever fits into. If you remove the square plate that the lever fits into you'll be able to remove it and then you will see that there is a pair of nylon cups that the large pivot ball works in. These can wear, usually the bottom one mostly I would guess. This is where I suggest the heavy grease.

#662058 Ball shell - and that should be for the upper and lower parts as a pair.

Have tried to find the pair of parts you quote as 662058 on the internet.
One website said these were brass and discontinued.
Any suggested source?

I checked Brookhouse, CVI and VP (website only) and none found. I suggest asking Simon. I might see him tomorrow if he comes to Sywell and will check if he does. Meanwhile, try the thick grease.

Skandix 380198 is for the later remote used on the B20 cars. #48 in pic. #662058 is 25.

Simon wasn't at Sywell but a chat with a very well informed 1800 "expert" brought the suggestion that there might be a missing part. There should be no wear there when static, unlike with the long Amazon lever which is always trying to wiggle about when driving. A good reason not to fit a heavier gear knob.

CVI had all the parts I wanted, in stock. I ordered from them and received delivery in one week.
Other suppliers either did not list all parts, or would have to supply on a back order basis.
