Is there a cheap volvo fault code reader?

Looking for a handheld device that will read and decipher any fault codes similar to the £50 ones for the VAG range. Does such a thing exist?

Bump for news on this topic.

I'm interested in getting something for my 2007 XC90.

Does anyone have any recommendations for fault code readers?

I don't have a budget, just looking to buy whatever offers the best value for money in terms of features vs. cost.

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the choices such as USB via laptop, handheld devices and full dealer equivilent specced gadgets.

Thanks.

Bump again for one for my 2004.5 S40 SE D, would love to have the ability to read and reset the codes, great to know what's wrong before you go to the main stealers.

I just ordered one (Autel EU702) for £95 based on a recommendation here on the forum - thank you 400-ascona.
Waiting for it to arrive - I will let you know how good it is once I have a play.

oo]]

that seems too good to be true, if someone can confirm it works on our cars I'll buy one today , Ive used the elm unit on other volvos , but it only goes as far into the software as the law says they have to give us access, Ive never used one but these are supposed to be the bees knees ,

the trouble is , its a bit expensive for the occational use .

Autel is good because it reads and resets fault codes for all the important modules including the engine, transmision and safety systems. It will also read and record live data from the engine. It also has the added benefit of working with any EOBDII equipped vehicle (Vauxhall, VW, Audi, Peugeot etc). I can safely say it has saved me and several people at work a small fortune.

Sadly, it doesn't work with my 2004 S40 SE D.

I have plugged it into a 2005 V70 D5, 2004 XC90 D5, 2005 XC90 T6, early S60 D5 with no problem (as well as various Vauxhalls, VW's, Audi's and Peugeot's).

It should work with the S40. Have you got the correct files on the unit?

I have the BSR PPC Diagnostic system - not sure if still available but allows for reading all the codes and clearing them. Nordic car parts used to do them at a reasonable price (around £100 if I remember correctly). Very useful and compact.
