New owner lots of problems :(
 

Hey there guys and girls, bit unfortunate that my first post isn't a happy one but I've been in the market for v40 for a couple of months and finally bought what I thought was the perfect car - 15' grey d2 r design done 60k with full service history and older lady owner. I have only had the car 2 weeks and I've loved every minute until tue when driving from work the car flashed up with 'epc fault' the car then went in to limp mode. I called breakdown but by time they arrived everything seemed to be OK so they put it down to an electrical glitch.
I proceeded to do approx 50 miles in the car when I had a 'battery charging failure' error flash up on the dash. I decided to continue my journey home and planned to get it booked in to a garage to get it looked at the next day.
As I got closer to home more and more lights started to appear epc, engine management, tps and systems one by one started to shut down PAS, lights, stereo, windows, until eventually the car just cut out and was completely unresponsive.
I managed to get it recovered to a garage where it would start from a jump pack but battery voltage was reading 9amp under load.
They diagnosed the alternator as being at fault despite this being changed 1500 miles ago in August!!
I've now had the alternator changed, battery charged and checked and now the car will not start or respond showing immobiliser fault.
Anyone have any ideas or experienced similar symptoms. Just want the car back on the road so I can enjoy it :(

Check the multiplug connectors to the CEM behind the glovebox, and also in the driver's footwell behind the carpet. I'm not saying this is definitely the cause of your problem, but poor contact due to dirty or corroded contact pins is a known issue that can lead to multiple failures and the dashboard lighting up like a Christmas tree.

It may be that just breaking and making the connections will help, although you could try sparing use of contact cleaner on the pins. I believe that Volvo can supply a replacement pin kit with gold plated connectors, but it's quite a bit of work to swap them all.

A lot of the newer cars with Start stop have issues when the batteries go low. I think i have read before that even if the battery has been fully charged, there coudl still be an issue and might need replacing. Its not cheap for these batteries either.
As suggested, check out the CEM, and maybe disconnect everything for ten minutes, then re-connect and might be OK. if still continues worth taking to volvo dealer or volvo independant who can plug up to it to review codes and clear them. That might solve the issue also.
