OOh, gray reservoir cap. Is it not causing you problems yet Chris?

Yes, it's split around the sides and warped. Today it went in the bin and a green one (generic PFV part) has been installed.

Hey, about that, I had a question! Does the cap fit flush to the bottle? On mine there's a couple of mm more height on the right than the left... That normal?

Chris...

Hello, What you call MOT we call inspection. I was the 6th in line this morning when they opened the doors and drove away at 7:11. The cost of a state inspection is included in the registration fee. I'm as happy as you are when my 10 year old catalytic converter w/139K passes inspection and is good for another 2 years. Kira

Hello, Try this one. Today, a friend of my dear Mom asked me to look at her daughter's car. It was smoking more heavily than any one of you could imagine. The woman mentioned that her husband had added oil to it so I started there. I drained >13 quarts of oil from the car. It takes 6.3 quarts. After restarting the car, the smoke took 2 minutes to clear 95%. All seems well after 15 miles of driving. Another thing about this poor, neglected, sports car wannabe (2002 Audi A4 Quatro 3.0) was that it was fitted with a "Group 7" oil filter. As if affordable oil filters weren't enough; Purolator created this bargain basement cheapie for dishonest "quick lube" places. The engine rattled upon start-up with it in place. The only remaining issues I have regard assessing the valve train's louder than expected ticking and cajoling the owners into changing their transmission fluid. This car has one of those "sealed-for-life" automatic transmissions. Volkswagon-Audi did it too. Dumkopfs! Kira

Mine too. :)

Had a good look at my shockers and found the Monroe part number :)

Now I don't have to buy from Volvo to be sure I have the right ones as there's different versions listed in VIDA for my car ;)

Front: Volvo 30714478 = Monroe 91E10004 which is Monroe C2503 on website http://www.monroeshop.co.uk/front-sh..._p22351142.htm
Rear: Volvo 31212035 = Monroe 91E10005 which is Monroe C1503 on website http://www.monroeshop.co.uk/rear-sho..._p22488835.htm

Odd that if you search by part number it brings back a list which shows buying one is the same price as a pair! Dumb.

Good evening :-)

Today was spent taking the wife's engine apart!!

Last weekend we were just setting off into London when the auxiliary belt snapped.
If i'd known that there was a chance that the snapped belt could take out the timing belt, I would have stopped there and took it out :-(
Tried getting back home (we were about a mile from home) and it did take out the timing belt half way home.

I spoke to a Volvo mechanic who said put another belt on and try to turn it by hand before trying with the key.
I fitted a belt this morning and it did turn over and it did start but you could tell straight away something wasn't right!

So spent the rest of the day taking the head off.
3 cracked bearing caps, 2 snapped rocker arms and 1 broken tappet!

Fortunately no bent valves :-)

Some photos of today's fun!!

Bloomin' eck. Good luck with that one. How did it all go?

Today I turned off my DRLs and before you all start on the safety issues with it, my own experiences have been it has not helped anyone see me before pulling out and giving me a four tyre lock-up to avoid hitting them. If the headlights flashed alternately and and were not static then that would be more like it. So hello "flexstd" and off they go.

OK chaps. I am sorry but I have just seen this thread. Basically, I have had a very relaxing day! By 0930hrs I had washed the old v70, by 1100 hrs had cut the grass at the rear of the house and then had a nice coffee. After this, have had a light lunch, read a bit, sitting in the sun quaffing a couple + glasses of wine! All in all, a very pleasant day and I hope you all have enjoyed yourselves as much as I have. All ther best..
Paul
