XC40 Failure Volvo UK Unhelpful
My Volvo 2020 XC40 suddenly stopped working at 10,000 miles, potential component failure.
Basically to cut a long story short gears started changing by THEMSELVES (Manual Transmission) on a motorway car went from 70mph to 10mph in a fast lane in the space of 10 seconds (lucky to be alive) smoke coming out the bonnet and vehicle was left unable to pull away. Dealership stated that a lot of XC40's have been coming in with clutch issues at low mileage. Has any one experienced this and has anyone recovered costs from Volvo? |
I think you need to establish what the cause of the actual fault is before being too judgemental.
Only then can you or the Volvo warranty administrator make an informed judgement about the fault and who is paying for what. Its business, and if you want a resolution you should be businesslike, not waste time and energy making comments about never driving a Volvo again. Not only does it get you no closer to a satisfactory resolution, but it actually undermines you as you've just kiboshed the likelihood of any repeat business which leaves them with little incentive to bend over backwards to help you. Find out what component has failed, because only then will you know if there really is anything to get excited about. |
Thanks Familyman90 being a familyman yourself i think that you too would be upset and "excited" if you had a 9 month daughter in that car as well.
Post modified to reflect your comments. |
You changed down from 6th gear to 1st when going 70 mph in the fast lane?
That's probably lunched the engine, they don't like spinning at 10,000 rpm. |
Baggy the gears started changing by themselves (its a manual) I did obviously not change from 6th to 1st.

The gears changed by themselves!
|
If it's a traditional manual, how can the gears change by themselves?
|
That's what I am hoping that the dealership can establish! Will keep you posted with any developments.
