New here, 1970 142S exhaust question
Hello,
just found the forum and had a question. I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum, and ask moderators to please move accordingly. I have a 1970 142S with a freshly rebuilt B20, D-cam, M40 gearbox, and a Weber 32/36 DGV carb. I would like to buy the 2,5 sport system from Skandix and have a local shop fit it up. I plan on adding a competition cylinder head, 4-1 exhaust header, 38/38 weber, etc. at a later date as finances permit. Has anyone have/had experience with the skandix sport system? Right now I am running the full-length stock exhaust with a straight pipe in place of the rear silencer:thumbs_up: It sounds good, a bit raspy at some rpms, but how does the skandix system sound? thanks in advance. Hi Mike for the spec of you engine the 2.5" exhaust would be to big and cause a drop in low end power. For what you have I would go with a 2" opening out to 2.5" for the back box or 2 1/4 straight through system. The 4 branch is a good idea - not much power gain but it does stop the exhaust popping on over run. Never used the scandix stuff so no idea on quality.

I had the Simons system on my 140, I think that was 2" and followed the line of the original crossing across the back axle. Sounded better than the original marginally and went fine.
I've now got a 2.25" bespoke stainless system made up going dead straight with two boxes. Feels much more perky but that could just be the noise. Thats on a well modded engine with SU's. |
