Steering Lock Assembly - Reassembled - Extra Part?

Couldn't turn my key all the way to click ignition switch. I had to go through the process of tearing apart a spare lock assembly and retrieve the crescent moon shaped guide.

Excellent thread - http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=193711

Through the whole tear down and re-assembly, when tapping the bottom plate pins for the steering lock back in, this little spring/pin fell to the floor and I don't know where it goes? Lock assembly? Shift cable? Everything seems to be working though... anyone familiar with this bit?

Looks like a lock tumbler pin, though to be fair I've never seen one from an X40. If it is a lock tumbler pin then losing one shouldn't cause a huge problem, it just makes the car a tiny bit less secure as theres a remote chance that a key from another car which was only fractionally different to yours might fit your ignition - that's a one in a million chance though!

Thanks, that eases some fears. I posted on fb and some of the fellas said it might be a detent for the ignition switch (hold it in place) and if they are right this would be bad... I just can't find anything on the inner bits where this would fit yet.

I had the key in the lock cylinder during this repair, not sure if it would have been possible to come out while that was happening?

Just guessing, but could it be the locking pin? Does the steering wheel lock when the key is removed?

It does lock, the steering lock in the assembly is significantly bigger (middle bit below I believe), if I'm mistaken I'd love to know it and put this pin in the right place.. I gotta pull the lock cylinder again and see if maybe it's on this outer black ring?
