Jensen 1800 steering box leak

hey lads, well after dissasembling the steering rack and replacing the 2 bushes, i reassembled it with correct bearings/race/washer/shims. the only issue i noticed, is that when the box in on an angle, fluid will poor out the front cover hole for the horn wire, and if i angle it down with the steering shaft facing the floor the fluid will poor out the end of the shaft. so im thinking its somehow leaking from the front bearing/race and getting into the steering shaft. im assuming that this may be a common problem/mistake.
any info greatly appreciated. im also considering getting an ez powersteering kit to save the hassle. is it really worth the money for the impact on the steering?

cheers

P;

This is not a "a common problem/mistake"...I suggest you got something wrong with the reassembly... from memory...the hollow Input Shaft protrudes into the incoming Shaft to allow passage of the Horn Wire, with the open shaft-end above the fill level, so that no Steering Box lube is lost in normal installed attitude.

Refer also to exploded assembly diagram at GPC's site.

Regarding "ez powersteering"...I just recently saw some feedback, on I believe this system, which is less than encouraging. (Please note: This is NOT my own experience but a posting related from another forum...the exact one escapes me right now...!)...an owner who did the conversion was disappointed...steering feeling and feedback was numb, and even worse... Steering Wheel does not return to center after making a corner.

Good Hunting!
