1966 Volvo 122 Ragtop
 

As some of you already have seen, was I forced to sell the 1962 Amazon last year, so now i only have the Volvo I bought in 1978.

Sometime during her long "sleep" did the keys dissapear, so I had to move it, using a pair of skates.
Luckely did i find a extra steering wheel lock, with 2 keys, in all the stuff I hoarded over the years, so that was one of the first jobs i did on her.

Next was to find a key that would open the gas cap.
After we had tried 12 different keys, did I finally find a key that worked - and it had a twin - very pleased.

After I drained what was once "fuel" it was time to remove the fuel sender, to see what was going on ?

I have just completed a refurbishment of my '64 131 fuel tank and the sender was in a similar condition, however after a clean up with a fine wire brush it came up like new and works perfectly. I used a vacuum to clean out the tank and then fitted a new in line filter.

Ahh - did you also have your workshop ruined, by the smell of what was inside the tank ?
My car have been standing for nearly 21 years, so the "stuff" I drained was not very nice.

I also soaked my transmitter for an hour, in some WD40, and then carefully started to move the lever arm (very gently) and after a while it came loose, and moved freely again.

I then hooked it up, with a test lamp, and it seemed to be OK.
Then I moved it to the car & tested it again, and it worked fine.

The tank will be removed, dont think I will be able to get the smell out.
It also had a small leak under the fillerneck, and a dent underneath.

Have a nice tank which I am now restoring.

May I ask why this thread is not about a Ragtop? Am I missing something?

it is - its my car, owned her since 14-4-1978.

She has been standing in my workshop since 1997.

I am working to get her back into "service" and put a new MOT on her.

Is it one of the few original convertibles, or an after-market conversion? The photo that you provide is so dark that identification of features is almost impossible. Can your provide some of better quality?

Why has she been sitting for 21 years?

Hi Dcthomson, no she is not a Coune convertible, she has a original Golde full opening roof.

She is one of 4 known Volvo,s here in Denmark, with this type of roof.

There are also a few with original Golde metal sliding sunroofs.
One was a 123GT that lived close to me.


Good question - wish there was a logic answer.
Clutch pressure plate broke in 1996/97, and at that time had I just finished the restoration, of a car my late Father bought from new.
The Volvo was put away, and I restored many other cars as the years went by.
Then a few weeks ago I had a look at my paperwork, and realized 14-4-2018 was just around the corner, so NOW it had to come out again.

Called the original owner last week, he was very pleased that I still had the car, and was looking foreward to a visit in spring -
was thinking about having it MOT,d so I could reunite him with the car on April 14th.

I would love to see some photos of your very rare car, taken outdoors or under better lighting. Are you going to excavate it any time soon?

Yes she was moved to my new garage last year (day the pic was taken) and I am currently working on her to get her back out before April 2018.
