V70 MOT fail

Mot failure for leaking steering rack o/s , (see my previous post) and advisory for play in n/s inner tie rod.

Spent all day removing rack in order to fit repair kit of new seals etc, however...
no fluid leaks to be found, inside of gaier was bone dry, no fluid from pinion top or bottom seals, also on removing inner tie rod, no play at all in ball joint, but fitted new anyway.

Refitted and filled with fresh atf, bled system and no leaks after running for 30 mins. level in reservoir okay

There was plenty of gunge over the o/s steering rack gaiter and surrounding area due to split in inner driveshaft boot, which was all cleaned off.

Now my question is, should I take this up with the tester when it goes for retest? Apparently he's only been qualified less than a year so not sure if he doesn't know what he's doing or maybe touting for work?

Personally I wouldnt bother... if it passes on re-test.

MoT testers are not all the same. You can have a fail with a heap of advisories, and the retest - after the failure bit was fixed, to find hardy any advisories!

So if the steering rack leak was a mistake, and you've cleaned everything so it looks dry... just re-test at the same place, because they cannot fail you on something else. If you took it for a re-test somewhere else, that tester might find something completely different to fail it, and you're back to square one. Just never use that test centre ever again and put it down to experience.

As above. If its clean and doesn't leak take it back for a free retest. If it isn't leaking he wont fail it. He wont know if you have replaced with a good second hand one. No need to panic :)

Re tested today, passed and now no advisories.
Thanks guys for all your help / advice, much appreciated
