2002 S60 clicking behind instrument cluster

On startup, especially in the cold, I get a clicking noise from behind my clocks for about a minute or so,like a relay clicking noise. It doesnt seem to affect anything other than the lights in the rear window switches. Anyone able to shed some light??

Demister relay? Probably in the drivers side fuse compartment on end of dash.

Alternatively, the noise could be a heater duct motorised flap getting out of bed all grumpy and un-settled, get that on my ol' V70.

+1 for the air duct porting.

These get lazy and a bit vocal

Clicking noise behind dashboard

My old Volvo had a gentle, continuous ticking which was caused by a voltage control regulator. I replaced that with a solid state device which cost about $1 instead of about $50 for a replacement part from Volvo.
The newer Volvo has a similar noise and is much louder, and also seems to be related to battery charging, but I would like to hear about other possibilities.
