Tigar tyres - any good or complete crap?

I've just bought a 2002 V40 1.8 S which I've had for about 3 weeks. The rear tyres are a pair of Michelin Energy which are part worn but with a fair amount of tread life left. However the front tyres are a pair of almost new Tigar Primas. It's not a make I've previously encountered since I usually keep clear of the budget end of the market. Apparently they are made in Serbia and the company may be owned by Michelin.

As far as I can tell, they seem to be ok but I'd be interested to hear other people's views and experiences.

Ive never heard of them but my own opinion is that i always use the best tyre i can. It costs more but that one time you need the extra grip or roadholding makes it well worth it in my eyes. The fact it may be owned by a premium brand is of no odds really, Continental tyres owns Barum as one of their budget brands but the tyres arent as good as Contis own ones and they bought them to tap into the cheaper market.

I had Tigars on a 480 once. Not great to be honest. I found them to be rather slippy when wet. The side walls didn't hold up well either. The plus side for you is they wear quickly so I don't think you'll have them on long :)

To answer your question.... Yes, in my opinion they are crap.

I put Toyo T1Rs on my V40 recently and what a difference it has made to the ride and noise levels.

Good luck...

Ditto on that, I've just replaced my two front tyre's with T1R's for £80 each and the change is phenominal. Grip is much better specially with all this snow and rain we been having. I still got some federal's on th back (fitted when I got wheel's) and ill be upgrading for T1R's as and when money allow's.

Best way which is mentioned alot on here is at end of day, your entire car is held on the road by a few square inches of rubber, nuff said.

Tigars are chineese tyres if im right and the rubber compound is crap as well as the tyre

I know nothing about their quality, but they are actually Serbian, and one of the major shareholders in the firm is Michelin.

+1 for proxes, read my post on them and you'll see why.

Tigar Primas get a very bad review here

but other Tigar model tyres get good reviews, seems they don't just make tyres for the bottom end of the market....

s40__paul, i have found Toyos to be great in everything apart from snow, when we had a bad spell before christmas i spent most of the time sat still with my wheels spinning, seems to be a popular opinion as well
