upgrading the cabin

Hi All

has anyone tried upgrading the entertainment system to have android auto/ apple car play, maybe screens at the back of the headrests, dashcam, reversing cam, 360 cam etc? what have your experiences been like, how much did it end up costing and who did you use to have the equipment installed?

I have a 2010 XC90 so at the minimum would like to replace the entertainment unit with a screen but am mulling over going all-in and getting all new tech fitted.

also: does anyone know if its possible to get aftermarket blindspot lights in the sidemirrors like in newer models? I do miss that

That's something I'm interested in. Has anyone ever done it?

I have just installed an android unit this sits in the upper dash speaker space.

looks good, but I haven't added the DAB unit yet either, but looking to add tpms and front and rear cameras too.

installation wasn't too bad, my xc90 didn't have the sat nav screen so I guess this made it easier.

In another car I did add a rear view mirror, but as a camera version, so this included "blind spot" which was essentially a flashing orange light on the side of the rear view mirror where there was a car. But if a retrofit could be fitted that would be better,

Any pics of the install?

this was my initial plan, but I changed my mind because if I do this, then the old entertainment system will just be "dead space" that will never be used at all, I would rather replace that unit and keep the speaker (I too bought the one without the rising up DVD screen)

The installation is still work in progress, sorry no pics yet. I agree that the current radio looks like dead space as you tap into the amp wiring and lose the oem radio audio too.

But so far the new unit works great. I brought one with 6gb ram and starts up in an instant. Just have the front and rear cameras to install.

there is a youtube video of someone in the states doing the install which helped me greatly.

I’d recommend the LEGEND multimedia system. It will cost about £500 delivered but looks OEM once installed due to its bespoke outer bezel and works wirelessly with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on its QLED 10.2” display. The LEGEND is a DIY plug and play install and comes with video instructions and brilliant customer support. I’ve had mine for about 4 months and really wish I’d installed it sooner. They have a Facebook page where you can contact the admin (who’s also the LEGEND system designer). My signature photo below shows the LEGEND system installed in my car. I installed a front and rear parking camera to my LEGEND system.

Regarding Blind Spot Indicators and 360 degree Birds Eye parking cameras these can also be retrofitted if you have the legend system. The guy who specialises in this is called Adam Green and he’s based in London, UK. He is a moderator of the Facebook group called ‘Customised Volvo xc90’. I’m the founder and Admin of that group.

Hope this info is helpful.
