Xc70 towbar options- do I already have trailer module?

Hi All,

My XC70 states Trailer module service required and park assist service required each time I start the car- was aware of this when buying.

Car has obviously previously had a towbar as the bumper has been chopped up underneath

I'm planning on fitting one anyway for our bike carrier which requires 13pin electrics.

Given the warning message, do I already have the TRM?
Is there any particular towbar you guys recommend and is a self install a horrorible undertaking?

Hi,

Have you checked in the fuse compartment in the boot area - on the left?

Des. . . ;)

Fitting a towbar

I recently fitted a second hand Volvo OEM (Brink) towbar to my XC70. It took about half a day of fiddling about to fit it. Removing the old exhaust hanger bracket and towing eye bracket were the hardest part - they are done up very tightly

Apart from that, it's a very straightforward nut and bolt job. Remove the rear panel to the right of the rear fusebox to see where the trailer module plugs in to. It should be obvious if you have one, it's a grey plastic box with a couple of multiplug sockets on it and a small 2 in plug. If you have to remove the bumper again, don't forget to unplug the antenna connector on the right hand side, under the light cluster.

The Brink towbar was a heavy lump - my neighbour helped me to lift it into position - it would have been a nightmare on my own

Unfortunately Jeremy, that info you provided is for a P2 model (up to 2007/8) so is not correct for a P3 version. For a P3, you need to add a couple of fuses in the top fusebox & the TRM is located under the boot floor & plugs into a the loom hanging out of the plastic trunking. I'll upload some pictures presently.

Some cars have only one fuse/relay module at the rear left.
