Sarris Bones 3 bike rack
Hi All
hope everyone is safe. has anyone fitted the above to there xc90 . if so would you have any pictures please . just looking at if the bottom legs sits on the bumper or on the number plate. i have the normal tow bar one and the roof rack . The reason for this info is for when i tow the caravan. not interested in one on the back of the caravan or inside. thanks for your time . Pics would be great mike |
I've heard that the spoiler isn't designed to have a bike rack hanging onto it and they have been known to break off... Caveat Emptor

The spoiler is plastic, and the tailgate itself light alloy. I'd be inclined to not fit anything that hooks over edges made from those materials, but it's your call of course.

Never been a lover of strap on bike carriers myself, always used tow ball mounted ones that are more secure
You could either use one that clamps onto the neck of towbar Keeping the ball free for towing or one that fits to the A frame of your caravan which can be found on ebay |
Thanks for the replies.
I will take into consideration your points. I have a detachable tow bar I can not fit a mounted one also I have tried a witter tow bar specific for caravan but found on tight turns the bikes caught the a frame. As for the A frame bike racks that's extra weight on the hitch Thanks Mike |
I have used one on my XC60 but it is not perfect.
I had to load the bikes on after I had connected the van, not good when leaving a site and you are now blocking the road. The tailgate spoiler does get in the way and you do need to buy the additional strap adaptors that go inside the tailgate. I was never convinced that all off the weight was on the feet on the bumper and the spoiler made it almost impossible to get the upper feet tight against the glass. Also the gap between the tailgate and the rear, where the side straps go, was very tight. I also put duck tape on under the attachment points to prevent any damage because the shape of the clips was not a good fit on the tailgate. If I had my time over again I do not think I would have bought it but not sure what if anything is better! I hope this helps. |

It's only for one bike,. Thanks Mike |
Oh yeah, like most coppers (now retired), I've been to many jobs where the rear window has broken and the bike has then dropped against the car if they're lucky, or been dumped on the road entirely.

Hmm i am sure i asked if anyone had one fitted to a xc90. yet again people posting to the pros and cons. only one contribution that has shed a bit of light on the subject.
thanks mike |
