HU-850 radio fault
I have recently bought a 2006 V70 which has a fault on the radio. I understand that this is common with this model. Can anyone advise me what the fault is and how it can be fixed so I can find a repairer and give him/her an intelligent idea of what the problem is?

Hi,
Moving to the correct forum. Have a search withing this forum too as if a common problem there will be common answers. Des. . . ;) |
What's the fault? Is it with the radio or the CD player? From memory, these were made by Mitsubishi.

You have a failled illumination bulb Remove the radio, and replace the failled bulb with a new one Problem fixed! Did i guess right? If not, how about providing a few clues as to what your problem is.... |
Sorry for the delay - I have "man-flu" and may die at any moment.
I turn the radio on and the display lights up. Channel search works and all buttons function but no sound happens for a couple of minutes then the radio comes on for a brief blast only, sometimes. Sometimes nothing happens at all. The tape player mechanism works fine but the only sound I get is regular light clicks. I have a Parrot fitted which seems to work but the sound is faint. |
CTCNetwork you suggest wrong forum - please advise which one to use. Thanks

HU-850 radio not working
Having read the correspondence this item has generated I believe I could have been clearer so here is more detail:
I turn on the radio and the display lights up as normal. All the functions work but there is no sound at first. After a couple of minutes the radio comes on but only for a minute. The only sound is a regular clicking then nothing again. If I leave it on for a further ten minutes or so, the radio comes on at full volume and will not respond to any of the buttons. I have to turn the radio off to kill the row. Turning it on again repeats all of the above. The CD functions normally except it has no sound. My model has the amp under the drivers seat It seems to me that the problem is to do with the amp. Can anyone give me any pointers? If this is repairable I will need help from someone in the vicinity of HP4. Do you exist? Thanks in advance |
Not the amp, it's the head unit itself. I'm currently working on ours & having reflowed a few joints with semi-success I'm now in the process of sourcing/replacing a pair of transistors and a voltage regulator which I believe to be the cause of this problem.
The affected area of the board is next to the tuner can & the parts I suspect are Q938/Q939 and IC945 (D1760Q transistors and an ST LF33A 3.3v regulator respectively, all in a DPAK package). These parts are available cheaply off ebay & even with my inappropriate soldering gear I hope to make a repair. Even if you can't/wont go into the stereo yourself, at least you could advise any repairer what the problem is likely to be. |
Volvo Radio Repair
I have on my file of useful contacts a repairer of Volvo car radios--
-- Central Services in Essex, CO11 1UN email:- enquiries@centralservicescaraudio.co.uk Tele :- 0126 396272 Hope this helps. Jude |
I had mine done last year by Central Services - details are in this thread but it cost £220 odd for them to repair - there was no other alternative anywhere near the price. They do loads of them for this reason but they were quick and the repair sorted it.
