142 rear axle assembly

I have the opportunity to buy a 1971 145 rear axle assembly. The problem is that I have a 1968 142s. Can I put the 1971 into a 1968? Is this swap possible? Any help will be appreciated.

It will lower the gearing. I had a 1969 145S and put a 144 axle in to improve the gearing and reduce noise so that my ears stopped bleeding.
