Ram pipe

Anyone fitted a short ram pipe inside a air filter housing and at the opening of a cold air intake on a Stromberg or SU? Any benefits in doing so to report?

Velocity stacks / ram pipes have been fitted (if you can get them to 'fit' in the filter housing). Can't advise on the quantifiable benefits.

Any noticeable improvements Ron? I’m looking at doing similar in the single carb filter enclosure, adding a K&N air filter and as I already have a cold air intake add a flanged intake as well. Basically following David Vizard’s setup for a single SU.

The one I have is 36mm deep and filter is 81mm deep. The alternative is a spacer between carb and filter housing with a internal taper.

Or I could cut it down and Tig weld the flange back on.

B; I can't say anything definite about that setup, because so far it is only on my "Training Carb" (an HS6 mounted on a wooden pedestal and used for demonstrations)...but it seems to me to be a nice configuration (actually not optimal, see response to 142Gs comment below!), and it is functionally quite similar to the Air Filter over VStacks arrangement in my 1800, which I have never felt was wanting for breathing!

142G; I totally agree, and when I did a quick calculation of cross-sectional area comparing stack orifice to the band between end of stack and cover, I found the area to be less than orifice area...that wont do at all!! I have another configuration in the works...stay tuned!

Cheers

I have read the minimum recommended gap is 1 1/2”.
