Volvo V90 T8 vs. Merc. E300de + Merc. profit warning

I found this dutch video interesting where finally someone had the balls to say that Volvo V90 is much funnier to drive than other cars in the same segment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra9r8cKIiiQ

It's subtitled in English.

Although both cars share the same price, the Merc. had the advantage in terms of mileage but if you take in consideration that Merc. will be fined for cheating emissions, then the car may lose more of it's value than initially expected.

I have much respect for M-B but their wagons have always been an afterthought.. Audi is a completely different story though..

As for the 300de- as much as I'm tempted by a diesel plugin hybrid- this particular implementation is clearly an add-on to an already existing diesel model.. the battery placement (attempt..) is just ridiculous - looks like a DIY..

Wow, had a quick look at the video to see what you meant! Doesn't that just show that the whole platform needs to be built from the ground up for hybrid! I honestly can't believe they've just essentially stuck the batteries in the boot with a carpet over them! I'd say 90% of estate buyers want a large flat load area!

:wq

I imagine a great part of the difficulty for the engineers was the (mechanical..) rear wheel drive concept they started with (ie. the shaft) but still.. this looks like a final product of one of those youtube Ukrainian make-a-lamborghini-out-of-a-lada -type projects..

Reminds me of the V60 D6 Twin Engine. Now that was a pile of poo...

"Diesel hybrids are certain to feature in Volvos of the future."...oh it's funny to look back sometimes...

I had an E220d some years ago and I thought it was a great wagon, shame the engine was so agricultural.... I have also looked at the E400d All Terrain as a half way house to an SUV and think it is a great car and a great dog space at the back, much more dog friendly than a V90....

We borrowed a GLE hybrid a while back and then realised it wouldnt take the dog pen because of raised floor - so me and the dog had to manage in a 3 door mini with the rear seat folded whilst the other adults enjoyed the GLE...
