V60 conking out

1 Attachment(s)
Ok.

V60 2012 R-Design. Conked out and came up with 4 faults. Wait 5 minutes and restart and then 100mtrs conked out again. Charged the battery up and still the same thing. Turned off stop start as thought this could be the problem, but still the same.

Called out the RAC and he reckons there is no aux battery on this model, the main battery is fine, no power to the OCB, but should be ok to drive. And went.

Took it out and still breaks down.

Help.....

The symptoms do look like a potentially sad battery, how old is it?

Did the RAC guy check to see if the battery was charging? Should be >14v while charging.
What voltage is it now with the warnings? <12v is bad.
Failing that... is the alternator belt still there, is it spinning?

Cheers for reply. The battery is 3 year old but she does only go out once a week and not big journeys. He tested the battery and said it was ok and tested the alternator and said it was ok. He mentioned the auxillary belt was frayed and needed replacing. I'm gonna stick it on charge again.

You should replace that belt immediately.

The design of the the 5 cylinder engine means a broken belt can get wrapped around the crank, tangled with the cambelt and break it - goodbye engine/£1000s to repair.
See this thread: https://volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=336454

If you're going to keep troubleshooting, I'd advise getting a multi meter and measuring the battery voltage.

Cheers, mechanic out tomorrow to have a nosey. The belt is booked to be done next week.
