I have a 2011 V60 D3 manual (which would now be badged as a D4). My driving is 60% urban journeys of under 10 miles, 40% motorway and open-road.
The car has averaged a genuine 46.5mpg in the 20,000 miles I've had it (measured at the pumps, not on the trip computer). Worst tankful ever was about 38mpg, best ever was about 53mpg. The economy is great considering the performance, size and weight of the car.
At a steady 65-70 cruise you'll get late 50s mpg. At 80-85 you get early 50s. No way will you get 70mpg unless you're Morgan Freeman cruising at 56mph.
