Like every other company we have a set of criteria given to us by the insurers that we must adhere to. The scheme works for a significant number of members of VOC (they don't speak up on this forum though). Because it works so well for the club we offered to extend it to the forum.
Unfortunately, our special scheme doesn't allow us to sign-up drivers over 70 but we would have quoted your mum outside of the main scheme where we're just left with computer rates. I suspect those rates were high so we would have said that we couldn't beat her renewal and it was her age that was stopping us using the main scheme. We don't see how that makes us useless or incompetent.
It's not even ageist as it is proven that drivers over 70 are just as risky as young drivers.
