Default Flatspot-fuel starvation

Does anyone know what could be the problem here? On 2 recent long journeys my 57 reg 1.6 diesel V50 has developed this very disconcerting problem. When trying to accelerate on an incline(to overtake a slower vehicle) and latterly when just driving up a hill, the car has started to loose significant power,as if being held back by an unseen force/dragging a jolly heavy load. This seems to get significantly worse as the journey progressed. Allthough I have always found yhe engine slow to respond to the throttle,I always put this down to yje size of the engine. However, this is a new problem, which is really rather scary. The car has driven just over 60.000 miles,is well cared for and much loved! If anyone has come across this,I would appreciate hearing how you solved this problem! Thank you!
