Default Accelerator Cable Fun n' Games [460 Turbo]

The 460's snapped its throttle cable on its way to the MOT.

Got to the unit late after some utterly idiotic traffic on the A538, threw all the stuff in the 460, get to the top of the [rather long] access road and the ICV starts fluttering despite the fact I cleaned it out last week. Go to blip the accelerator and...........the pedal goes straight to the floor.

Manage after 20 minutes to push it back up the access road and then outside the unit again. I then fall down knackered.

[at least I know what colour Richmod to go after when \ if I get it sorted ]

Start examining the wreckage and it transpires that someone's mashed the linkage together with a brass choccy block from a pushbike. None of the original fittings remain and the specialist at FRF Volvo reckons I'll need the cabin side fittings plus a new cable to stand a chance of getting it working again. It looks to me like some kind of AA \ RAC bodge job to get someone home from the side of the road. None of it resembles the diagram in the HBOL (although most of the time that's blathering on about the B18U engine and mine has a B18FTM).

After cursing several times for having bought a subsequently modified Dutch Volvo that was approximately made to begin with, I get the ammo crate out and browse through the [surprisingly comprehensive] service history to see if there's an recovery invoice buried in there. Someone ran it out of fuel in 1994 and there's a hilarious bill from a Renault garage in France for FF6300 (?!) - but no mention of any accelerator cable butchery. Someone in Croydon paid £1120 a year to insure it four years ago, too. Terrifying.

After finding every MOT from 1993 to the present day, I discovered it's failed tests six times previously on the basis of the handbrake being **** \ having seized calipers. Depressing.

I also found the Volvo service history:

Almost a full spread, from its PDI in 1990 to a 60-odd thousand mile service in 2011. It's on 77 thou with me at the moment, and almost all of them at franchised Volvo dealers in and around SW London. I wonder how much Rybrook Volvo would want to add another stamp to it......

I then remembered I had this random leather Volvo document pouch in the glovebox.....

So in a bout of OCD tinged sadness I added the original owner's manual, the stamped service history and its timing slip from RWYB at Santa Pod:

Anyone got the cabin end of the accelerator cable for a Mk 1 B18FTM engined 460, and the correct throttle cable lying around?

No?

Thought not. Will have to crash my usual contacts to see what NOS parts I can find.....
