The calliper's do wear youre right
what I do is plenty of copper ease on the backs, in the I also welded two blobs on the calliper which I filed down, tricky but I got there in the end the pads sit snugly now, no movement in the slightest. I had the same issue with my s40 and that's what I did. They used to rattle until I appled the brakes.
